Doom Filled Dream Becomes a Reality on 4/2

By Kat Metzen

In 2013, after the popular Kickstarter ran into unrecoverable problems, Cryptozoic, believing in the talent and concept, reached out and offered to publish the game and personally cover the game copies for all Kickstarter backers. Both Cryptozoic and Keith Baker agreed that the Kickstarter backers were the first priority, and on 3/26 Cryptozoic is proud to announce we will fulfill this promise, shipping the first copies of the game to every backer.

The rest of us will have to wait until April 2 when the game will finally be available in Hobby Stores and online e-railers.

The Doom That Came to Atlantic City is a labor of love and terror from three exceptional talents. It is the brainchild of artist Lee Moyer, inspired by his love of the Cthulhu Mythos and disdain for a certain board game that shall not be named. Game designer Keith Baker is best known for the Origins Award winning card game Gloom, and he brings the same dark sense of humor to the devastation of Atlantic City.

Keith and Lee enlisted the help of their friend Paul Komoda to design some of the more eldritch visual elements of the game. His talents can be seen on-screen in the prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing and Cabin In The Woods. He successfully brought his vision and long association with H. R. Giger to his designs of the Great Old Ones.

What is Doom?

A Light-hearted Game of Urban Destruction set in the Universe of H.P. Lovecraft

You’re one of the Great Old Ones – beings of ancient and eldritch power. Cosmic forces have held you at bay for untold aeons, but at last the stars are right and your maniacal cult has called you to this benighted place. Once you regain your full powers, you will unleash your Doom upon the world!

There’s only one problem: you’re not alone. The other Great Old Ones are here as well, and your rivals are determined to steal your cultists and snatch victory from your flabby claws! It’s a race to the ultimate finish as you crush houses, smash holes in reality, and fight to call down The Doom That Came To Atlantic City!

At first glance, you may notice a similarity to a certain real estate trading game. However, the gameplay is entirely different. Doom challenges you to destroy the city rather than build it. You begin with a happy community filled with houses, and then you and your friends arrive. Each of you is playing one of HP Lovecraft’s Great Old Ones, and your goal is to smash houses, open gates, and destroy the world. But you each want to destroy it in your own special way. As Cthulhu, you want to make sure that pesky Shub-Niggurath doesn’t sneak in and destroy it first!
