Pop Art Con Highlights

By Miranda Charsky

Cryptozoic Entertainment was very excited to be part of the recent Non-Sport Pop Art Con, which took place earlier this month in Philadelphia, PA. The show was primarily aimed to bring collectors closer to the artists whose work they have collected for years. Cryptozoic sponsored the trip for two artists: Tim Shay from California, and Gary Kezele from Washington. The show provided the opportunity for Tim and Gary to meet fans, and finally meet fellow artists face-to-face that they have worked with on many trading card sets. Gary and Tim are truly talented artists, whose work can be found in upcoming Cryptozoic releases such as Tarzan 100th Anniversary, The Walking Dead Comic, and DC Comics The New 52 trading card sets releasing this summer. Curious in what Tim and Gary's work looks like? Here's a sneak peek at some sketch cards from Tarzan that show off their skills!

While there, I was able to meet with collectors to discuss upcoming sets and our excitement for the upcoming DC Comics The New 52 Trading Cards, which will feature original art commissioned exclusively for the set! Cryptozoic also commissioned sketch cards to be randomly inserted into the packs of The New 52 from some of the top sketch card artists in the industry. Having a chance to work on an art-based set has been a lot of fun, and we are very excited about getting started on the next DC Comics set which fans can expect later this winter.

George Nadeau, Art Acquisition Manager for Cryptozoic, also made the trip to Philadelphia to meet potential new sketch card artists, review portfolios, and provide feedback to those looking to enter the industry. George was very excited to meet all the artists that he’s been working with, and was really impressed by the amount of talent shown by the aspiring talent that stopped by to see us.

To everyone who stopped by the Cryptozoic booth, and to all artists that came by to show off their work, thanks a bunch!
