Happy Thursday, trading card fans!
The trading card team has gone through some changes lately, and before we start talking cards, I thought it would be good to bring everyone up to speed.
If you attend the Philly Non-Sport shows, you have likely had the opportunity to talk to George about trading cards (Cryptozoic releases or not), and know that he is super passionate about trading cards, and, in particular, sketch cards. George Nadeau, everyone should know as the guy who acquires all of the amazing sketch cards and original art that go into so many of our products, has been an instrumental part of our team for years. Always a workhorse, George has helped get us through some tough, overburdened times. Recently, George’s title changed to Associate Brand Manager (And All Around Nice Guy), which means he is a lot more involved in the product development and management of the DC Comics trading card releases (this includes Arrow!).
George is really looking forward to the next DC Comics release, Epic Battles, "I’m especially pleased with the “Make Believe” chase set. Artist Patrick Ballesteros has depicted his unique take on DC Comics heroes and villains. I think collectors will really enjoy his interpretation." This release is a little different than anything Cryptozoic has released so far. The entire 63-card set is comprised of puzzles of original art for 7 crossover storylines. These stories include:
Crisis on Infinite Earths
Panic in the Sky
The art for these is really amazing, and we have an exclusive look at one of the scenes here:
This original piece of awesome art will be included in the set as a Redemption.
What? That’s awesome.
The entire set will be printed on a Cryptomium™ premium foil stock, include base and chase cards: BAM! Character cards by THARP, and Make Believe puzzle set by Patrick Ballesteros. Fans will also be able to find rare parallel sets of the base and chase. There is so much going on with the upcoming DC Comics Epic Battles set that we will let George dedicate an entire blog to it in the future. So, be on the look out for even more details regarding the upcoming set!
But, George’s role isn’t the only thing brewing for the team! We have hired an Associate Production Manager, who will be using this month to get caught up to speed on all the various projects we are currently working on. A challenging undertaking, he is looking forward to working on collectibles for some of his favorite shows! We are also looking for an Associate Project Manager. So, if you are a rockstar with MS Project, please take a few moments to look at the job description, and apply by emailing your résumé and cover letter to email@example.com.
We have received almost all of the Downton Abbey Autograph cards in house, including Allen Leech’s cards that came in today.
Our confirmed list so far is: Laura Carmichael (10/22), Jim Carter (10/22), Sophie McShera (10/22), Thomas Howes (10/22), Siobhan Finneran (10/22), Phyllis Logan (10/22), Rob James-Collier (1/7), Lesley Nicol (1/7), Zoe Boyle (1/9), Iain Glen (1/16), Michelle Dockery (1/28), Allen Leech (2/6), and we expect Jessica Brown Findlay* and Joanne Froggatt* cards in any day now. Once all cards are in we can schedule the pack out window with our vendor, so check back frequently for a release date.
One aspect of the Downton Abbey Trading Cards that I’m most excited for is the addition of the miniature sketch cards, inspired by the small cigarette cards collected during the period of the show. If you haven’t had a chance to see these yet, please take a look below.
While I love the miniature cards, the standard sized cards are stunning as well.
The Sketch cards are rare, inserted 1 in 442 packs, and will likely be very treasured by avid collectors.
There is so much going on with the team, so stay tuned for weekly updates, and I hope to see a few of you apply for the Associate Project Manager job!
